Otter Creek/ Evening Mist Jacket

I attended a little workshop to make the Morning Glory Designs jacket, “Otter Creek Jacket.” I used six fabrics most of them from the “Evening Mist” fabric collection by Sentimental Studios for Moda.

All in all, I think it came out rather well:

All the edges, even around the lapel notch were bound like a quilt would be:

I searched high and low for buttons and finally settled on these metallic looking ones:

Plum Scrap Happy

Original “Scrap Happy” quilt as it appeared in American Patchwork & Quilting October 2008.

As soon as my American Patchwork & Quilting October 2008 magazine arrived I was inspired to make this plum colored version of Kathie Holland’s design “Scrap Happy.” I had a mountain of plum scraps and a few orphan plum fat quarters. I even had the plum/purple fabric for the setting triangles on hand. All the fabric I had to buy was the sashing fabric and the backing fabric.

Simple Yet Effective Shawl

IMG_1183

During my Christmas visit to my daughter, I got a little antsy not having a project to work on. I ask her for some yarn and needles, then downloaded a pattern from the internet. You can do a google search on “Simple Yet Effective Shawl” and download the pattern. I used Noro sock yarn, just one ball, the same amount of yarn as used in a pair of socks. I really like the result; it complements the color of many of my long-sleeved tee shirts and provides just the right amount of added warmth.

Winterscapes Place Mats

I was inspired by a photograph of my daughter’s new kitchen floor to make these place mats at the last minute as a housewarming/Christmas gift to her and her husband. The kitchen floor is aqua. The fabric is from the “Winterscapes” line by Benartex.

Snowman Jewelry

My sis-in-law is a lampwork bead maker. She made these beads and assembled them into jewelry and then sent them to ME for a Christmas surprise. Aren’t they cute?

Christmas Wonder

Earlier in the year, I blogged about making a One Block Wonder quilt. These quilts are based on a technique described in the book, One Block Wonder Encore by Joy Pelzmann and Maxine Rosenthal. I had the pleasure of taking a workshop with Maxine in Fort Wayne, IN, in early October 2009. Anyway, here is my Christmas version using three colorways of the same fabric from Westminster called “Poinsettia & Holly Mix.”

In this technique the individual hexagonal blocks are each unique and kaleidiscope to form pleasing symmetrical patterns:

I used the white colorway for the star:

The borders are a green color gradient fabric by Carol Bryer-Fallert:

The quilting is continuous curve within the blocks and feathers in the borders.

Christmas Ornaments

In the late seventies when I moved into my first house and finally had a real Christmas tree, I made these ornaments from a Vogue pattern. Does anyone have this pattern? It is no longer available from Vogue and I could not locate it on eBay. I would love to make more, but have lost my pattern after numerous moves around the country.

Yeah! Problem solved with only one day searching and bidding on eBay. I won the bid for this pattern from 1986. It is not the original Vogue pattern I used in the 70’s, but very close. I am all set for making these for NEXT Christmas.

Vogue Ornament Pattern

I did it! I found the original pattern on an eBay store! I bought it! It is on the way in the mail!
