Fall Fungi

The toadstools in the fall are very colorful around here. The following look like coral to me.

The following three pictures were taken in the same area along our “street.” Maybe our recent rains explain the sudden appearance of these tiny guys.

Zucchini Bread

When I was a young bride, my newly acquired sister-in-law gave me this recipe for Zucchini Bread. Isn’t that cute recipe card stationary?
IMG_2003

In case you cannot read the recipe, here ’tis:

3 eggs
1 cup oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups grated zucchini
1 cup nuts ( I used 1 cup dried cranberries.)
3 1/2 cups flour ( I used 1 1/c quick oats and 2 cups flour.)
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 teaspoon vanilla extract

Beat eggs, oil, sugar. Add zucchini and dry ingredients. Mix all together, add nuts and vanilla. Stir.

Grease and flour 2 loaf pans.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes

This is how it turned out today.

Table Runner Using Kaffe

Isn’t this a pretty wildflower/weed? The color in real life is deeper and more intense.

IMG_1886

I finally succumbed to the lure of Kaffe Fassett fabrics to make this little table runner. The quilting is free motion Baptist’s Fan. The next time I want to use Baptist Fan quilting, I think I will follow a pantograph.

Progress on the Mosaic Quilt

Philadelphia Pavement

I started a mosaic quilt using all Maywood Studios Shadowplay fabrics. This is just a quarter of the quilt. The smaller “Trip Around the World” in the center will be repeated in each quadrant.

Greenery

This quilt started with making the center Dresden Plate block as an experiment using Lurline’s tutorial. Then the idea of using partial Dresden Plates to make the curve going round the center developed into this completed quilt.

The straight line quilting on the plates makes an interesting pattern on the back of the quilt.

Butterflies

This has been a good year for “capturing” butterflies via the digital camera:

Butterflies

Red Spotted Admiral - top side

I was out tending my hosta bed when I noticed this recently emerged Red Spotted Admiral butterfly. I think its colors will be more distinct as it fluffs up a little.

Red Spotted Admiral - underneath side

I was lucky enough to capture the underside of the wings, too. Startling, how different the top and bottom sides are.

Red Spotted Admiral chrysalis just after butterfly emerged

Not a very good photo, but this is the empty chrysalis case still attached to the hosta stem.

Just a few days before I was able to snap a picture of this little guy. The photo really looks fairy-like to me. I have no idea of its identity.
