Butterflies

Red Spotted Admiral - top side

I was out tending my hosta bed when I noticed this recently emerged Red Spotted Admiral butterfly. I think its colors will be more distinct as it fluffs up a little.

Red Spotted Admiral - underneath side

I was lucky enough to capture the underside of the wings, too. Startling, how different the top and bottom sides are.

Red Spotted Admiral chrysalis just after butterfly emerged

Not a very good photo, but this is the empty chrysalis case still attached to the hosta stem.

Just a few days before I was able to snap a picture of this little guy. The photo really looks fairy-like to me. I have no idea of its identity.
