Asterisk Quilt Completed

Asterisk Quilt

I finished the quilting in time to show this quilt in our little quilt show in August. This is the second project I have completed on my new Gammill Vision 26-10.

The quilting was really very simple. I just quilted squiggly lines in all the 1/2 inch inserts. This resulted in a sort of lattice pattern on the back. Here is a view from the top of the quilt and from the back. As you can see, I used a turquoise thread and a turquoise and brown backing fabric.

In the border, I simply outlined all the flowers and stems in the border fabric. This is a view from the top of the quilt and from the back. The only other quilting I did was to stitch in the ditch on each side of the narrow turquoise inner border. The quilt is bound in the same turquoise batik fabric.

Celtic Pillow

IMG_3469

I finished this little quilted pillow last week. I started it in a workshop with Mary Lou Hallenbeck in November 2010. Mary Lou demonstrated her technique for appliqueing bias strips in Celtic patterns.

I think the quilting looks nice especially in the right light!

Fall Fruits

On my walks in the last week or so, I have noticed lots of berries and fruits along the way.

Herb Harvest

We have had several nights below freezing, so I decided to harvest some herbs for winter usage.

I went out to where my herbs grow amongst the rocks with a little basket and gathered thyme, sage, rosemary, chives and tarragon.

Then I rinsed them in cold water, spun them in the salad spinner to remove excess water, and arrayed them on kitchen towels to dry. I plan to store them in glass jars.

I had a good crop of basil and parsley earlier in the summer as well.

Iced Coffee

Several weeks ago Pioneer Woman posted about making iced coffee. I was intrigued enough to buy the brand of coffee she showed in her post and try to make some myself. My version is much simpler than hers. I flattened a coffee filter, sewed up two-thirds of one side, and placed 1/4 cup of coffee inside, then finished up the seam. I let that brew using tap water in a 28 oz. jar for about 12 hours. I filled a glass 2/3 full of crushed ice, then 2 envelopes of Splenda, then poured over half coffee brew and half 2% milk. Even though I am not a coffee drinker, I thought it was pretty good.
