Progress Report on Asterisk Quilt
I have been working on the asterisk quilt.

As you recall, you start with stacks of 7-inch squares.

End up with stacks of blocks to be trimmed up.
Here are some finished blocks. I will need 81 for a 9 block by 9 block quilt. These are Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I think I will insert a 1-inch sashing using one of the calmer fabrics to give the eye a place to rest, as designers are wont to say.

Quilts of Valor – Stars and Stripes
I just finished my second quilt for the Quilts of Valor foundation. The mission of the QOV Foundation is to cover ALL those service- members and veterans touched by war with Wartime Quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVs).
I started the quilt in a workshop with a well known quilt artist, teacher and author, Gwen Marston in May 2008. She taught the class to use “string” quilting where narrow strips of fabric are sewn together to create “new” fabric. I worked with red, white and blue strips. When I sewed enough together, I used a diamond shaped plastic template to cut out eight points for each star. I made nine of these eight pointed stars, smaller gold stars for the corner stones and an additional striped border. Only this year, 2011, was I inspired by the QOV work to complete the machine quilting and get the quilt ready to send to a recipient. I hope he or she it enjoys it.

Toadally Awesome
Sometimes I just want to do something a little silly. Not exactly cooking, although frog legs might apply. Not exactly quilting, even if it is stitching and fabric. Just something a little silly. So, how about stuffed toad?
Belly up.
Sitting up.
Close up.
Let’s give credit where credit is due. Pattern by Random Threadz. Fabric by Tula Pink called Prince Charming.

Roasted Red Pepper Soup
1 1/2 cups roasted red peppers*
14.5 oz. can stewed tomatoes
14.5 oz milk
1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
2 tablespoons flour
salt to taste
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 sprigs fresh or 1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 garlic clove or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Put all ingredients in a saucepan. Use an immersion blender to “put the stick to it” until desired consistency is achieved. Cook until bubbly and thick, at least 2 minutes to be sure to cook the flour. Stir constantly. Garnish with fresh oregano leaves.
* When I can get 11 large, beautifully deep red bell peppers at my local mega mart grocery store for $10, I core and slice them. Arrange on 2 or 3 baking sheets. Douse with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast at 400F for about 30 minutes or longer if you want them more “caramelized.” Cool. Store in air tight container in frig. Great in this soup recipe, on sandwiches, in salads, in dips. Yum.
